For a nursery, a child’s bedroom or a christening gift, this design shows a guardian angel keeping watch over two children. It follows Bernhard Plockhorst’s 1886 painting Guardian Angel (Schutzengel), which is in the public domain, translated by Decorartes into black flow lines.
The line layer is made to come out of the laser in one piece: every line meets the frame, so there are no floating parts. A backing board in the identical outer shape, supplied as its own file, shows off the pattern.
Stated size: 11.8 in x 17.8 in, or 300 x 451 mm. Feel free to scale it up, but keep it from getting smaller; at this size the narrowest strokes measure 1.3 mm. Plywood, MDF or acrylic around 3 mm thick works well: color the top layer black, or cut it in black acrylic, and pick a soft pastel or light birch for the back.
