A wooden Christmas bauble that opens: this original design by Decorartes is a complete laser cut file for an ornament gift box. The multilayer lid swivels on a wooden pin hidden under the gold cap, so you can tuck a gift card, folded money, a note or a piece of jewelry inside, swing it closed and hang it on the tree. When it hangs, the lid falls closed by itself because its weight sits right under the pin. There are no hinges, magnets or hardware: every piece is laser cut.
Four lid designs are included: Snowy Village, Nativity, Santa’s Sleigh across the moon and Poinsettia. The box is the same for all of them, so you can cut several lids and change them. The ornament is 12 cm across and 15 cm tall with its hanging tab, and the inside is 10.4 cm across and 1.2 cm deep, so a gift card lies flat inside.
The file comes in two complete sets, one for 3 mm sheets and one for 6 mm sheets. The box is built from stacked rings on a back plate, the lid is a base with four glued picture layers, and the pin is a column of laser cut discs with a round head. Everything was checked in 3D: the lid turns all the way around without touching anything and every layer is one solid piece.
You can make it bigger or smaller by scaling all the pieces together, by the same percentage and with the proportions locked. The box has no slots, so it fits together with the same board at any size; for a gift card use 100% or more. Never scale only one piece or only one direction.
The ZIP includes the cutting sheets for 3 mm (279 x 279 mm) and 6 mm (300 x 300 mm), every sheet as SVG, DXF, DWG, AI, PDF and EPS, an illustrated step-by-step assembly guide in English and in Spanish and README files. The product photos are 3D renders made from these exact files.
