A wooden Christmas lantern with a layered scene on each of its four sides: this original design by Decorartes is a complete laser cut file for an LED tea light lantern. The four scenes are the Nativity under the star of Bethlehem, the Three Kings on their camels, Santa’s sleigh over the mountains and a snowy village with its church, each one built from four layers: a red frame, a black front layer, a green middle layer and a slate blue back. With an LED tea light inside, every window glows warm through a sheet of vellum and the star-shaped vent in the roof throws a star on the ceiling.
The four walls lock together with finger joints and stand in slots of the base, and a ring on the base keeps the tea light in the middle. The stepped roof lifts off by its ring handle, and a locating plate under it keeps it in place. The 3 mm set makes a lantern with a 12.4 cm base, 21 cm tall; the 6 mm set is 14.8 cm wide and 22.4 cm tall.
The file comes in two complete sets, one for 3 mm sheets and one for 6 mm sheets, with the slots and finger joints made for each thickness. Everything was checked in 3D: no part collides with another, every corner closes and every picture layer is one solid piece. The sheets are grouped by paint color.
You can make it bigger by scaling all the pieces together, by the same percentage and with the proportions locked; the sheet thickness must grow in the same proportion (3 mm files at 133% need a 4 mm sheet). Never scale only one piece or only one direction.
The ZIP includes the cutting sheets for 3 mm (279 x 300 mm) and 6 mm (300 x 300 mm), every sheet as SVG, DXF, DWG, AI, PDF and EPS, a parts guide, an illustrated step-by-step assembly guide in English and in Spanish and README files. Use only a battery LED tea light. The product photos are 3D renders made from these exact files.
