Linefeed is a monospaced typeface inspired by 1960s and 1970s computer band printers. A row of hammers, one for each column, smacked the paper against the ribbon and the character picture on a constantly revolving steel band. Because extraneous characters would have slowed down a band printer, most were restricted to uppercase, digits, and a little punctuation. This was one of the most widely used computer fonts during the 1960s and 1970s. It was found on driver’s licenses, magazine subscription labels, report cards, invoices, and auto dealership window stickers, among other things. Lowercase letters, extra punctuation, and accents have been added to this once-ubiquitous typeface. Most Latin-based European writing systems are supported, including the following languages.
