The largest urban colony of bats is observed in the American city of Austin, Texas.
Peruvian army soldiers captured a giant bat that had been terrorizing the entire district and had “attacked” people several times. Some people linked the constant attacks on livestock to the Peruvian “chupacabra.” Scientists explained that the bat belongs to the largest species of the “flying fox” group. Its wingspan exceeds 2 meters.
The years 2011 and 2012 were declared “International Year of the Bat” by the United Nations.
